4. Punishments.—The punishments to which offenders are liable under the provisions of this Sanhita are— (a) Death; (b) Imprisonment for life; (c) Imprisonment, which is of two descriptions, namely:— (1) Rigorous, that is, with hard labour; (2) Simple; (d) Forfeiture of property; (e) Fine; (f) Community Service.

4. दंड.—इस संहिता के उपबंधों के अधीन अपराधी जिन दंडों के लिए दायी हैं, वे ये हैं— (क) मृत्यु; (ख) आजीवन कारावास; (ग) कारावास, जो दो विवरणों का है, अर्थात्:— (1) कठिन, अर्थात् कठोर श्रम के साथ; (2) सादा; (घ) संपत्ति का समपहरण (जब्ती); (ङ) जुर्माना; (च) सामुदायिक सेवा।
