- Selling, offering, or exposing for sale any article as food or drink.
- The article has been rendered noxious or is unfit for consumption.
- The accused sold or exposed it knowing or having reason to believe it was noxious.

Imprisonment of either description up to 6 months, or fine up to 5,000 rupees, or both.
Practical Note
Unlike Section 274 BNS which penalizes the act of adulteration itself, Section 275 BNS penalizes the actual sale or offer for sale of noxious/unfit food or drink. The key requirement is 'knowledge' or 'reason to believe' that the item was noxious at the time of sale/exposure. It is non-cognizable and bailable, triable by any Magistrate.
