Crossing after issue.—Where a cheque is uncrossed, the holder may cross it generally or specially.

Where a cheque is crossed generally, the holder may cross it specially.

Where a cheque is crossed generally, or specially, the holder may add the words “not negotiable”.

Where a cheque is crossed specially, the banker to whom it is crossed may again cross it specially to another banker, his agent, for collection.

Practical Note

Section 125 is an express statutory exception to Section 87 (Material Alteration). Adding crossing lines, a bank's name, or Not Negotiable after the cheque has been issued by the drawer is authorized by law and does NOT render the instrument void under Section 87.

जहां चेक सामान्यतः या विशेषतः रेखांकित है, वहां धारक उसमें “अपरक्राम्य” शब्द जोड़ सकता है।

जहां चेक विशेषतः रेखांकित है, वहां वह बैंककार जिसके नाम वह रेखांकित है, उसे संग्रहण के लिए अपने अभिकर्ता के रूप में किसी अन्य बैंककार के नाम पुनः विशेषतः रेखांकित कर सकता है।
