Plain English Summary
Mandates that witness summons must be served sufficiently in advance to afford the witness reasonable time to prepare and travel to the court.
Key Legal Elements
- Adequate Advance Notice: Protects witnesses from last-minute harassment.
- Reasonable Preparation & Travel: Factor in distance and document retrieval time.
Practical Note
Challenging Short Service: If a witness summons is served only 24 hours prior to the hearing on an outstation official, the witness can legitimately seek an adjournment on grounds of inadequate travel time under Rule 9.
