Frequently Asked Questions about General Power of Attorney (GPA) Format
Can property be bought or sold solely through a GPA in India?
No. The Supreme Court of India in the landmark judgment Suraj Lamp & Industries v. State of Haryana (2012) held that a GPA is not a transfer of ownership of immovable property. Property ownership can only be conveyed through a registered Sale Deed.
